The TN SFW Furs Knowledge Exchange Program is an educational initiative designed specifically for furries across Tennessee. It is a special set of furry meet events held at our private venues and discord. It offers classes hosted in Discord channels and private venues, creating a safe space for furry enthusiasts to learn, grow, and connect. Our classes range in costs from free to costing money depending on the subject matter of the classes.

Our classes covers essential aspects of furry culture:

  • Social Media Navigation - Mastering furry-specific platforms for digital art

  • Fursuit Creation - Hands-on workshops for beginners, with tips and tricks

  • Digital Art & Animation - Technical skills development

  • Fandom History - Deep dives into furry culture origins

  • Technology Tools - Content creation resources

  • Animal Care - Expert guidance for exotic or unusual pet owners

The program addresses a critical need within the Tennessee furry community - accessible, structured learning opportunities tailored to local interests. By sharing specialized knowledge and resources, we strengthen the bonds between furries while preserving the rich traditions of our fandom.

By combining online accessibility with in-person workshops, the program meets furries where they are - whether they're in Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, or anywhere in between. This flexible structure ensures that every Tennessee furry has the opportunity to participate, learn, and contribute to our growing community.

For those interested in learning opportunities tailored to local interests, we encourage you to explore our event list. Additionally, if you wish to connect with our team or have any questions regarding specific events in your area, feel free to check out our staff page and make sure to contact a staff specifically in charge of events. Lastly, for daily stories and updates about our community, don't miss out on our blog.

Furry-Centric Social Media Platforms

Social media is the lifeblood of the furry community, with over a hundred platforms designed specifically for furry artistic expression and community engagement. Our knowledge exchange program delves into learning about these platforms that many people may not have even known of in order to find one that specifically fits your needs and posting type.

The program offers practical guidance on how to navigate new platforms as well, including:

  • Setting up artist profiles

  • Building follower engagement across multiple platforms

  • Understanding platform-specific features

  • Creating effective content schedules

  • Managing commissions through multiple social channels

  • Finding which platform you will call your main platform

  • Writing a tos and making it legally viable and binding without a lawyer

These online spaces allow furries to showcase their creative works, connect with other furs, and foster meaningful client relationships and friendships within the community. The program's social media workshops empower members to fully leverage these platforms for artistic development and community involvement and potentially even to help with one’s own income within the fandom.

Fursuit Making Workshops

Our hands-on fursuit making workshops create a supportive environment for beginners to learn essential crafting techniques. These classes, limited to 5-6 participants, ensure personalized attention and guidance from pre-established fursuit makers through each step of the creative process.

The practical nature of these workshops allows participants to experiment with materials while receiving real-time feedback. Students work with actual fursuit materials, learning through direct experience rather than just observation. These classes will have a price point based on the cost of supplies and venue they are hosted at.

Unique Features:

  • Take-home starter kits with premade personalized character designs to choose from

  • Reference materials and sewing pattern templates

  • Access to specialized equipment

  • Progress documentation through photos

  • Handwritten pamphlets to come along with the take home starter kits

These workshops emphasize creative expression while allowing members to get the benefits from a well organized set of tools and supplies. Each participant develops their distinct style through guided experimentation with different techniques, materials, and design elements.

Staying Updated with Fandom News and Events

News outlets are important sources of information for furry enthusiasts who want to stay informed about conventions, meetups, and community developments. Popular platforms like FurAffinity, Flayrah, and Dogpatch Press provide timely coverage of fandom events and cultural developments.

The knowledge exchange program includes sessions on how to effectively navigate these news sources as well as others, helping members filter out irrelevant information and actively participate in the wider furry community.

Exploring the History of the Furry Subculture through Books and Documentaries

Our knowledge exchange program dives deep into the fascinating history of furry fandom through carefully selected resources. Participants are shown important texts, art, youtube videos, songs, and more which shed light on how the fandom evolved from science fiction conventions to a unique subculture. We share things like this to learn where we truly came from, our history and how we as a fandom and continue forward while honoring that which we came from while still continuing to improve our future.

These sessions also feature rare archival footage, vintage fanzines, and original artwork from the 1970s and 1980s. Participants gain insights into significant milestones, such as the first furry conventions and the emergence of digital art communities that shaped today's fandom. Past removed social media platforms and why they were defunct as well as past controversial artists who made a big splash before they inevitably left the fandom and where they went wrong.

Utilizing Technology Tools for Content Creation and Community Interaction

Our knowledge exchange program explores essential digital tools that empower furry creators. We provide hands-on tutorials for beginners, focusing on basic functions and workflow optimization. Advanced users share tips on creating commission templates, managing art portfolios, and streamlining their creative process.

Animal Care Resources for Domestic and Exotic Pet Species

Our knowledge exchange program includes specialized sessions on responsible pet care, featuring expert veterinarians and experienced animal handlers. These sessions will cover many different unique species from farm animals to exotic pets, as well and provide education on which pets are legal to have but not ethical and why.

We maintain a curated digital library of veterinary resources and care sheets available to all members on our website as it continually grows. Regular panel events address common pet care challenges,  and may even have hands-on demonstrations of grooming techniques, emergency first aid procedures and precautions, and environmental enrichment strategies. These practical sessions help ensure our community's pets receive optimal care and attention.
